Spotlight on: Adenine (Grade I)
Since the 1960-years Adenine is known to prevent loss of cell viability of red cells during long-time storage. In 1978 citrate-phosphatedextrose with adenine (CPDA-1) preservative was developed and became the standard blood cell preservation solution. Here, the addition of adenine improved the synthesis of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in the stored red blood cells.
Due to its usage in blood conservation applications, the quality of Adenine is essential for ensuring the long term storage of RBCs. Pharma Waldhof Adenine (Grade I) is tested vigorously to fulfil our strict quality requirements and complies with the current EP and USP monographs for Adenine. Furthermore, Pharma Waldhof Adenine Grade I is tested microbiologically (TAMC, TYMC, and specific contaminants) and for Endotoxins.
